On Friday, 26th September 2025, the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) paid a working visit to the Ho West District Assembly as part of its Environmental Study Tour in the Volta Region.
The objective of the study tour was to enable students to gain a deeper understanding of the environment in which national development issues are situated. It also sought to promote mutual understanding between civilian authorities and military institutions, while contributing evidence-based recommendations to the state for accelerated national development. Some of the thematic areas of study included local governance, environmental management, cross-border security, youth unemployment, agro-processing and food security, tourism, and infrastructural development.
The delegation, led by Colonel Raymond Quartey, was received by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Profer Francis Dusey, together with the management of the Assembly. The visiting team comprised 77 officers, mostly Ghanaians, alongside allied students from Nigeria, Gambia, Botswana, Niger, and Liberia.
In his welcome address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Profer Francis Dusey, commended the College for selecting Ho West as part of their study tour. He further shared highlights of the district’s profile, touching on its geographical setting, administrative structure, population, agriculture, and major socio-economic activities.
Several presentations were delivered during the visit. ASI Nana Osafo Boadu spoke on cross-border challenges and security concerns at the Honuta border, outlining key interventions along the Ghana–Togo frontier. Mr. Augustine Oti Yeboah of HERP-Ghana made a presentation on conservation and eco-tourism, emphasizing biodiversity protection and sustainable tourism. DSP Gyasi Rockson, the District Police Commander, addressed general security issues within the district, while Hon. Robert Ameh, a member of the Tourism Sub-Committee and the Assembly Members for Amedzofe Electoral Area, highlighted the district’s tourism potential, including historical sites, cultural heritage, and natural attractions.
The officers actively engaged in the session, asking questions, seeking clarifications, and sharing observations. The interactive nature of the engagement further strengthened collaboration between the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ho West District Assembly.
