As part of activities to commemorate this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Ho West District Assembly partnered with the Mawuadek Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), to celebrate the day at the Dzolo Gbogame E.P. Church on 28th May 2025. The event brought together students, teachers, parents, health professionals, staff of the Assembly, the SHEP Coordinator, and community leaders.

The District Chief Executive for Ho West, Hon. Professor Francis Dusey, in his keynote address, emphasized that menstruation is a natural process and should never be a barrier to a girl’s education or personal development. He noted that with education on menstrual health, every girl can manage her period with confidence and without shame.
The DCE reaffirmed the government’s initiative to provide free sanitary pads to two million girls in basic and secondary schools nationwide. This initiative, he explained, seeks to reduce absenteeism, enhance academic participation, and promote gender equality. He also commended the Mawuadek Foundation for its dedication to the cause.
Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare, District Health Directorate, District Education Directorate, and the National Youth Authority also delivered remarks, highlighting the crucial role of menstrual health and its impacts on girls’ education, health, and self-esteem.
As part of the event, the District Chief Executive officially launched the “Flow with Confidence” campaign, an initiative designed to empower girls and promote access to menstrual hygiene products.
A practical demonstration was conducted to educate participants on how to use sanitary pads during menstruation and safe disposal methods.
Sanitary pads were distributed to students from Akoviefe D/A Primary, Dzolo Gbogame R.C. Basic School, Dzolo Gbogame E.P. Basic School, and Dzolo Senior High School, ensuring that girls had the necessary materials to manage their periods hygienically and with confidence.
