ANFOETA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL INAUGURATED

The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Thursday 10th October 2024, has inaugurated the Anfoeta Traditional Council in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, following its elevation to traditional council status.

The Paramount Chief of Anfoeta, Togbega Kwasi Drah VII, was sworn in as President of the council, alongside thirteen other traditional rulers, four of whom are queen mothers.

Her Worship Comfort A. Apalayine, the District Magistrate Judge, administered the oath of office, the oath of secrecy, and the judicial oath.

Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the Sector Minister, in a speech delivered by Mr. Baafi Nsiah, Chief Registrar of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, highlighted the pivotal role traditional authorities play in nation-building, governance, and maintaining peace. He noted that while chiefs historically played different roles, they are now expected to lead the fight against environmental degradation, poverty reduction, and other initiatives aimed at achieving development at both local and national levels. This new role, he added, necessitates training and adaptation to enable chiefs to effectively fulfill these responsibilities.

Mr. Nsiah further emphasized that the inauguration of the traditional council should unify the traditional area to enable collective efforts in achieving peace and development. He assured that the Ministry would provide staff, logistics, and training to support the council in performing its duties effectively.

Mr. Harry Anthony Attipoe, the Registrar for the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, reiterated that the inauguration of the council fulfills Section 12 of the Chieftaincy Act, Act 759. He noted that through the Ministry’s efforts, the Volta Region, which has the highest number of paramountcies in the country, will see an increase in the number of traditional councils.

Togbega Kwasi Drah VII, the Paramount Chief of Anfoeta, in his address, expressed his gratitude for the inauguration of the Anfoeta Traditional Council. He hoped that the council would serve as a catalyst for promoting peace and advancing the development agenda of the traditional area.

The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, emphasized the importance of traditional councils in enhancing local governance, promoting development, and preserving cultural heritage. He encouraged all stakeholders to collaborate and work together to ensure the success of the traditional council.

The chairman of the ceremony, Dr. Peter Hayibor, donated visitors’ books, messenger receipt books, minutes books, and other essential items to the council.

The Anfoata Traditional Council building was also commissioned for the commencement of council activities
